The Johnsonville Heritage Festival will be held May 4th and 5th, 2012 at Venters Landing (formerly Witherspoon’s Ferry, the site where General Francis Marion received his commission). Our committee has decided to combine the traditional Founder’s Day Festival and the more recent 2010 Rally at the River Festival to hopefully become an annual event focused on the education about the area’s rich heritage along with an emphasis placed on our woodlands and the scenic Lynches River. On Friday night May 4th, we will have the John Curtis Lewis Band from Hemingway, SC along with the militia soldiers. Our cake baking competition (with $200 in prizes) will take place on Friday evening. Cakes will need to be entered between 5:30-6:30 pm. Dinner will be served Free to the public. On Saturday, we will have a Bar-b-Que Chicken Cook-off (with $1000 in prizes), various vendorsfrom educational booths to food vendors, canoe/kayak tours and helicopter rides. Entrance to the event is free to the public. If you would like more information or would like to participate in our event, please contact Ron Douglas or Kem Poston at 843-386-3500.
